According to media reports, Myanmar parliament's lower house has approved an enhanced agreement on military cooperation with Russia at armed forces' request.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Myanmar parliament's lower house, Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, has approved an enhanced agreement on military cooperation with Russia at armed forces' request, local media reported Wednesday.
The Defense Ministry's proposal was adopted by the parliament without objections on Tuesday, The Myanmar Times newspaper said.
Myanmar Deputy Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Myint Nwe said the two countries had a long history of military cooperation and more deals were likely to follow.
In late April, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Russia was planning to boost bilateral cooperation with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
